(I)sland. 2016
Science showed that upon human contact with any cellular entities, an exchange of cells occurs. This means that touching something, is becoming that thing at a cellular scale and that this transformation happens in both ways. Considering this fact and the inspirations mentioned above, I wish to expand my body, thus expanding the island by cross contamination, in a similar way that both parts of the Island historically merge through waste disposal. This island is water, rocks, dirt and soils, its also horses, peoples and trash, wind and salt, it’s going to be me, or should I say us. The (I)sland.
I intend to walk the circumference of the island for the whole duration of 5 hours. During that walk, I will collect and accumulate found objects, natural and human made (I won’t pick off living plants, animals, insects or break any installations. I engage to respect the integrity of the site). as I’ll find them, I’ll tie them to my body and my clothes, simply by hanging, taping or holding them with net clothing. I would like to start at the dock.
I wish to be mostly covered with the Island by the end of the walk and suffer of the weight accumulation and body restrictions. I’ll commit to this intention, not knowing if my body will support it until the end.
